Wine and cheese, beer and hot dogs along with barbeque ribs and iced tea are some of the most famous food pairings. Here at BUNN we are about to celebrate one of our favorite pairings, coffee and doughnuts!
The 77th annual National Doughnut Day is June 5th (learn about how it all started here). We thought it would be helpful to provide some different options when it comes to pairing the pastry delights with their coffee counterpart to maximize the enjoyment as you indulge Friday – or any day for that matter!
Given the fame of the pairing, it’s not a shock that a variety of coffees match up well with different types of doughnuts. According to Randy Pope, Director of Beverage Technology at BUNN, generally most coffees originating in Central America fit best with doughnuts. These coffees tend to be smoother and less fruity in their composition and thus are a good balance with the sweetness of the pastry.
Diehard coffee-and-doughnut lovers swear by milk and sugar with pretty much any type of coffee and any type of doughnut but according to coffeetea.about.com, smooth and sweet Costa Rican coffees are especially well suited.
Check out this infographic from allwomenstalk.com that goes into great detail when it comes to pairing your favorite coffee and with numerous varieties of doughnuts.
As you prepare to celebrate National Doughnut Day, don’t forget to maximize the enjoyment of your favorite pastry treat with its perfect compliment in the cup. Happy Eating!
